Pigeons are more than just a nuisance. When they settle on a building, they tend to stay, returning to the same ledges, roofs and signs day after day. Over time this leads to heavy fouling, blocked gutters, damaged stonework and ongoing hygiene concerns.

Pigeon droppings are acidic and can eat into brick, stone, metal and paintwork. In places like Glasgow and East Kilbride, where many properties are older or shared buildings, this damage can become expensive if left unchecked. Droppings also create slip hazards around entrances, fire escapes and loading areas.

From a health point of view, dried pigeon droppings can carry bacteria and fungal spores. While serious illness is rare, the risk increases in enclosed spaces, lofts, plant rooms and commercial premises where droppings build up over time.

DIY deterrents often fail. Plastic spikes fitted incorrectly, netting with gaps, or cheap visual scare devices usually lead to pigeons simply moving a few feet along the same building. In some cases, poor installation can trap birds or create further mess.
